UK Government leaves RE out of baccalaureateCountry/Region: United Kingdom, Europe
The Department for Education confirmed this week that Religious Education will not be included in the new English Baccalaureate for a second year. The decision to exclude RE in favour of music, art and IT was made despite a nationwide campaign by Christian groups and objections from some MPs.
The Religious Education Council of England and Wales (REC) has criticised the decision, with its chairman, Brian Gates, accusing the Government of “knowingly undermining” RE in Britain’s schools.
