Lunches for hungry Sudanese Christian refugees

Can you help feed Christians who have fled Sudan?

“…many of these Sudanese men, women and children have escaped from tough circumstances of persecution, war and poverty in Sudan,” said our project partner in Egypt. “This relatively small addition to the joy of their Sunday worship services was appreciated highly.”

What is this small addition?

A simple sandwich lunch for Sudanese believers after their Sunday worship.

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

Matthew 10:42

Jesus warmly praised believers who provide even a cup of water for those who love and follow Him.

Through Barnabas Aid, you can give more than a cup of water. You could give a basic but sustaining lunch to Sudanese Christian refugees in Egypt. They often travel long distances to church in Cairo, and some are so poor this could be their only meal of the day.

A simple meal after church for Sudanese Christian refugees satisfies hunger and brings joy

Faithful Egyptian Christians prepare and deliver about a thousand sandwich-based meals every week for six churches in the city. Some of the Egyptians take unpaid time off work every week to serve their needy Sudanese brothers and sisters. Many of the Sudanese believers have come all the way from the Nuba Mountains, but new arrivals are most likely fleeing the current conflict in Khartoum.

“In the past weeks, churches … asked for more sandwiches because new refugees have been arriving lately in Egypt,” said our project partner.

Sunday School teacher Christina says that Sudanese Christians are in “great need for this food”

“The sandwiches are very important for the people, they are a great service,” said Christina, a Sudanese Christian who teaches Sunday School at one of the recipient churches. “This is especially important for the new people who have just arrived from Sudan. They are in great need for this food.”

How you can help

$38 could provide the ingredients to make 100 sandwiches of various fillings (beans, falafel, cheese etc.)

$190 could provide the ingredients to make sandwiches to feed a church of 500 Sudanese Christians for one Sunday
