Nigerian church minister Joseph Danjuma Shekari was abducted from his home in Kauru Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State, by unidentified gunmen on the evening of Sunday 6 February.

The attackers, who broke into the minister’s home at around 11.30pm, killed Sati Musa, a cook who worked in Mr Shekari’s household.

In a statement announcing the abduction, church leader Emmanuel Okechukwu Okolo called for “intense prayer” for the release of Mr Shekari.

The church would do all it could “to ensure his quick and safe release,” he added.

Attacks on churches and Christian communities in Kaduna State have been numerous. On Sunday 30 January eleven people were killed when gunmen attacked a community in Kaduna’s Zangon Kataf LGA.

Pray for the safe release of Mr Shekari, and that the Lord would sustain him while he is held by his kidnappers. Ask that God, who gives peace beyond understanding (Philippians 4:7), will comfort the bereaved family of Sati Musa. Intercede for Nigeria’s Christians, that they will remain strong and faithful in the face of dreadful persecution.
