Report of a bishop’s phone call to Barnabas Aid
“Bishop spoke to me three weeks ago and told me that people are not in hunger. On today’s call, he advised, since PM announced lockdown around 30 people had killed themselves due to poverty and hunger in Eastern India. He also explained the shame culture – parents not able to provide for their children will push them to take unpleasant decisions. Fortunately, no Christian cases of suicides but the helplessness of the families and the absence of pastoral care could cause major psychosocial issues in Northern India.”
