If you are a UK taxpayer you may well be able to boost you donation by 25p for every £1 you donate. It doesn’t cost you anything; the “extra” is reclaimed from income tax or capital gains tax you will pay in the current tax year. You will pay the same amount of tax irrespective of whether you “gift aid” donations or not. Tax reclaimed must not exceed the amount of tax you pay in the tax year of the donation(s), or HMRC may charge you for the difference. It is fine to wait until you receive your annual statement from HMRC and then request us to retrospectively claim Gift Aid on your donations, and this is best if you are unsure.
For us to reclaim the tax we will need a valid Gift Aid Declaration. The Declaration is very simple. We need your name and address so that HMRC can verify you as a UK taxpayer. In addition you need to tell us which gift(s) we can reclaim the tax from; this usually means putting a tick in an appropriate box. You will also need to inform us if your address changes or if new circumstances mean that you are no longer able to Gift Aid your donations. A form can be found in most of our literature, from our website, or we can send one on request. A Gift Aid Declaration can be made without donating, just by clicking below to download the form.
