Help Support Sudanese Christian Refugee Children With Education in Egypt

March 22, 2024

“I love my teachers so much and, when I come to school, I feel I am coming to my second home,” said "Musa", who is studying at a Christian school in Egypt for Sudanese Christian refugees.

Musa and the other pupils have fled war, conflict and persecution in their homeland. Many arrived in Egypt within the last year, because of the civil war raging in Sudan since April 2023, which has created a severe food crisis.

The children’s lives have been terribly disrupted and their parents are mostly too poor to pay school fees. But through this school the children have an opportunity to pick up and continue their education. They are following the same Sudanese curriculum that they were studying back home. And all their classes are in a safe and nurturing Christian environment.

There are currently 369 pupils at the school, aged from 5 upwards. Some are as old as 20 because they started school late, due to poverty, or their schooling was interrupted.

“I love my school, my teachers and friends, the school here has been a great place.” Students are full of gratitude for this Christian school for refugees.

“Thank you for giving my son hope and teaching him to read and write – skills he thought he might never acquire.” The parents are so grateful that their children have an opportunity to study.

The school also provides livelihoods for Sudanese Christian refugees. It employs 27 teachers and seven other school staff – that makes 34 jobs. “Without my job, I wouldn’t be able to pay the rent of my house,” said "James", who teaches maths.

“Thank you for taking care of us and for providing us the best education.” Students are given the opportunity to learn in a safe and nurturing Christian environment, giving them hope for a better future.
