A Pakistani Christian father and his sons were brutally beaten in an assault by Muslims for refusing to move out of the neighbourhood in which they live.

John Elvin, who works as a nurse, and his two sons were attacked on 18 August around 11pm. Earlier that evening, a group of local Muslims had thrown stones at the windows and door of the family’s home. John and his two sons, Sunil and Vikram all required hospital treatment after the assault. Vikram was permanently blinded in one eye.

The family had previously been told they would be killed if they did not leave the Mehmoodabad neighbourhood in Karachi, which they moved into ten months ago. John and his wife, along with their three children, were understood to be already planning to leave, but were waiting for a year-long tenancy agreement to expire. The attack took place after they sought help from police.
